How Does a Website Help my Small Business?
Preserved from the old Uncharted Design blog for nostalgia. This is old web-business advice, not current guidance.
We got this question for the first time from a yoga teacher in the small town of Huntsville, Utah. At a glance it may seem like websites are only for those selling products online or seeking to reach a worldwide audience, however the ways in which people get basic information about your business have changed.
At the very least, you’ll want “The Business Card.” This is a single page website that holds the important information about your business. Usually it will include your name and logo, what you do or provide, and your contact information. By having this small stake in the wild, you start to build yourself a cheap and scalable business front that can provide residual customers, information, or references with very little effort on your part.
It’s safe to assume that a fairly large percentage of people that want to find your business will search for you online. Having an online presence has become a staple of permanency and stability in the business world. This could be anything from having a listing on Yelp to a fully interactive customer facing web portal. The important part is that customers see your business as legitimate.
Any operation that sells a product will want a website. If you have ever shipped an item to a customer, you will increase profits. There is no downside to having an online storefront! Not only does this expand your market, it provides customers with a way to purchase at any time from any place. The “E-commerce” model of website is a remarkably profitable business if you have the right niche.
